Delivered by three volunteers riding on bikes pulling three trailers the cinema is quickly unpacked and assembled. The generators are tested – the film is focussed – introductions and explanations are made - there’s call for volunteers to cycle – and we are good to go!
The diagram below shows the energy sources and flows for the cinema system;
The back up power source for the cinema is a 1o5 Ah sealed battery protected by a wooden enclosure in an aluminium flight box. This is transported on a bicycle trailer. In order to keep the battery at full charge between events the battery is connected to three small (12 Wp) solar panels which are fixed to the top of the trailer.
The battery can also be charged up from the Powerpod or dynamically at events using bike generators. There is a 400 W Studer pure sine wave invertor to convert the 12 V DC to a reliable 230 V a.c. source which comes from a normal household socket. The five generators are transported in an Aluminium flight box loaded on another trailer.
On anothe trailer is our 400 W home cinema sound system, DVD player, projector and our energy board. The sound system is powered dynamically from our energy board. Our board is based on this.
